It is the Pentax * ist DL a good camera?

I saw in a shop refurbished and my brother, who is actually in the picture, is looking for a camera. I thought it might be good. $ 449 CAN is a good price? Is it a better camera than the Nikon D40? What are the differences between Pentax, Nikon D40 and the Canon Rebel XT? Buying a super 100D stabilization gets you in the body, dust removal, and the best image quality that can possibly get from a 6 megapixel DSLR. Nikon D40 is small and has a friendly interface. You can find very inexpensive used for Pentax lens system that allows you to build a low price but high quality system.
