Five Ideas For Using Your iPod In The Classroom
What? You can use your iPod for educational purposes? Yes!! The iPod is a perfect tool for learning, as well as for listening to music. With the ever growing amount of iPod owners, most being younger people still in school, the iPod is a great tool to use in the classroom.
Apart from getting your students to think you are cool for owning an iPod, there are other ways for it to be put to good use. From foreign language class, to music class, to even art history and more, the iPod is making a big hit in the classroom.
So, you are a student sitting in music class, and all of a sudden instead of your teacher putting on a song in an old music player, they connect an iPod to their computer and out plays Beethovens 5th Symphony. Using your iPod is great for any music class.
The iPod allows you to store and keep all your music in one easy place and lets you set up pre-determined playlists, and is very portable for anyone. The iPod is an easy way to get your students to listen to your music selections, and with the ease of iPod music upload anyone is able to do it.
Maybe you are not a music teacher; maybe you have a foreign language class that is in need of something updated and fun. Using your iPod to play podcasts in foreign languages is simple. Or, you can always make your own podcast to play if you plan on being out one day. Knowing a foreign language is now a more and more important thing to know and having a new and exciting way to learn one is always going to be easier for the students.
Perhaps one of the most useful things a teacher can use in a classroom is podcasts. A teacher can easily search for podcasts relevant to the daily classroom discussion or lecture. Did you know even the Supreme Court has podcasts? You are now able to listen to the deliberations of the Justices when you in the classroom!
The popularity of the iPod has reached a new, higher level when the Supreme Court is using them. Recently, the teacher of a government class I am taking surprised us all when she started playing a podcast of the daily Supreme Court deliberations. It got all of our attention, to say the least. Most people in the United States have never heard the Supreme Court deliberate, and the iPod helps bring something new to listeners all over the world.
Maybe you are an art history teacher, or maybe you just need to show a photo slideshow in class. An iPod is an easy way to store the photos you need and in a specific order that you are able to use it in a classroom setting. The iPod is a very portable device and by storing your photos for the classroom on it, it is simple to bring them in and share with your students.
Now, if you are lucky enough to teach in a school with a seemingly endless budget, then you could be able to buy iPods for your students that already have all the forms and documents that they will need for your class. This allows the student to keep everything they need for the classroom in one easy place. Now, if you are like most of us and money is limited then just using your own iPod to store all of your documents and files for the class is an easy way to keep it all in one place and will cut down on the time and stress it takes looking for them.
These are just some of the many ideas that you can use in the classroom. There are many, many more. The iPod is becoming a popular thing to own, for students and teachers alike. Owning an iPod opens up many possibilities that you might not otherwise have. From podcasts, to photo slideshows, to music lessons, the iPod is making an appearance in classrooms all over the world. Its as if the iPod is taking over the world, but it is good to know that you can use the iPod for educational purposes and not just for entertainment purposes.

Customary Settings for Dispute Settlement $151.35 This study examines causes and types of disputes and customary institutions for their settlement among the TorbanKuttaye Oromo in Ethiopia. It explores a number of causes of disputes viz. theft, breach of agreement, land, inheritance, violation of socio cultural values and drunkenness. A new finding of this study is that, the intensity of different types of disputes tends to be associated with the state of economy among the Kuttaye Oromo. That is, both scarcity and abundance of resources tend to increase the prevalence of disputes but of different type. The book also presents that disputes are dealt with at plural settings: customary settings and state structures. Majority of the disputes, however, are dealt with at customary settings as has been demonstrated by peoples overwhelming preference to get their disputes settled at this institution. The customary settings constitute the Gadaa, Qaalluu and Jaarsummaa institutions, which mostly work in a coordinated and integrated fashion in the process of dispute settlement. Generally, this book would help various bodies to exploit the merits of indigenous knowledge system in maintaining peace. Symmetries in NonSmooth Settings $164.1 Symmetry group analysis is a powerful tool in the study of differential equations, in particular for determining invariance properties, constructing special solutions or deriving conservation laws in systems of physical interest. The theory of algebras of generalized functions (in the sense of Colombeau) efficiently deals with linear and nonlinear partial differential equations which involve singularities, with applications in such diverse fields as mathematical physics (general relativity, nonsmooth mechanics), nonlinear distributional geometry or global analysis. Fractional calculus extends many of the modelling capabilities of conventional calculus and integerorder differential equations. It deals with derivatives of any real (and even complex) order. This book attempts to provide a synthesis of these fields with the aim of reaching a global framework for symmetry group methods in nonsmooth settings. Intellectual Transformation in Transcultural Settings $172.06 Conducted over a 3year period, this multiplecase study examined the professional backgrounds, transitional issues, and intellectual transformations of four Afghan university teachers during their graduate study in language education at a large Midwestern research university. An intellectual transformation coding scheme synthesized from the works of Paolo Freire (1970) and Harvards William Perry (1968, 1970) was used to analyze their intellectual transitions. Their transformations largely involved bringing newly acquired academic knowledge and discourse development into line with culturalpolitical knowledge developed from life experiences, positioning them for further transformation following the return to their home country. Essentially, they tactfully drew on both external and internal resources to cope with their multiple challenges. The most emphatically reported intellectual transformations included their strong commitment to the constructivist learning and teaching approaches that clearly empowered them in the face of foreign settings and their heightened confidence in applying the Western educational approaches in their beloved homeAfghanistan. Volcaniclastic Sedimentation in Lacustrine Settings $301.78 This volume presents a unique compendium of papers assessing the effects of volcanism on lakes, as recorded by the volcaniclastic sediments deposited within them. The unifying theme is that the effects of volcanism on lacustrine sedimentation are diverse and distinctive, and that volcaniclastic lacustrine sediments hold the key to understanding a range of processes and events that cannot be readily addressed by the study of any nonvolcanic lakes.Thirteen papers, with authors from nine countries, examine both modern and ancient eruptionaffected lacustrine deposits. Volcanic eruptions affect lakes and their deposits in many ways, and these papers evaluate processes and products of volcanic eruptions within lakes, of tectonically impounded lakes strongly influenced by volcanism, of eruptionimpounded lakes and of general factors controlling sedimentation of vitric ash and pumice. Tephrastratigraphic studies also take advantage of the exceptional preservation of thin laminae in quiet lakes to precisely date episodes in the evolution of longlived lakes and their catchment areas, and to understand how volcanism affects normal lacustrine processes. The volume as a whole is an unparalleled source of information on all aspects of the physical sedimentary results of volcanism in lacustrine settings, and serves as a complement to other studies concerned primarily with thermal and geochemical characteristics of lakes within volcanic craters. If you are a member of the International Association of Sedimentologists, for purchasing details, please see: http: //www.iasnet.org/publications/details.asp?code=SP30 Author: Riggs, Nancy R./ White, James D. African Settings in Contemporary American Novels $165.95 Africa has long captured the Western imagination as a land shrouded in danger and mystery. British and American novels written before World War II established popular conventions and stereotypes about Africa that have been increasingly challenged by contemporary American novels set in Africa. Kuhnes book overviews the ways in which Africa has been employed as a powerful setting for American novels written since World War II. Kuhne argues that contemporary American novels with African settings are largely didactic, that these novels convey specific lessons about Africa and Africans, and that they compare African and American cultures in order to evaluate and critique the two worlds. The book begins by summarizing the conventions and themes Westerners have traditionally associated with Africa and by detailing how British and American authors from Aphra Behn to Ernest Hemingway depicted Africa before World War II. It then looks at contemporary American novels set in invented African nations, novels that typically suggest that the problems that trouble actual African nations are the result of colonialism. A separate chapter then examines the African novels of African Americans, which generally aim to correct the historical record, refute stereotypes, and detail the horrors of the slave trade. The volume also looks at genre fiction set in Africa, while a final chapter discusses postcolonial novels with African settings. Author: Kuhne, Dave Series Title: Contributions in AfroAmerican African Studies Series Number: 193 Binding Type: Hardcover Number of Pages: 176 Publication Date: 1999/05/30 Language: English Dimensions: 9.63 x 6.37 x 0.90 inches |

Becoming a Learning Coach in Academic Settings $98.77 This book highlights the fact that personal development initiatives generated by the modern competitive labour market need to focus on individual knowledge, experience, growth and achievement of workrelated objectives in workplaces for both the individual and the institution. This can be better achieved, not through simulating a working environment such as most accredited training organisations offer, but through welldefined inservice tasks that take into account the clear career progression needs of the individual. This would allow people to set up specific and measurable learning outcomes, in order to acquire skills that allow them to adapt to their job functions for a better individual or collective performance. It explores ways of developing coaching skills in academic settings, not through accredited training courses, but rather by following the selfdirected learning route that is informed by continuing personal and professional development activities, action research for improvement, reflective practice and collaborative learning for quality enhancement. Signature Schemes in Single and MultiUser Settings. $115.71 In the first chapters we will give a short introduction to signature schemes in single and multiuser settings. We give the definition of a signature scheme and explain a group of possible attacks on them. In Chapter 6 we give a construction which derives a subliminalfree RSA public key. In the construction we use a computationally binding and unconditionally hiding commitment scheme. To establish a subliminalfree RSA modulus n, we have to construct the secret primes p and q. To prove p and q are primes we use Lehmanns primality test on the commitments. The chapter is based on the paper, RSA signature schemes with subliminalfree public key (Tatra Mountains Mathematical Publications 41 (2008)). In chapter 7 a onetime signature scheme using runlength encoding is presented, which in the random oracle model offers security against chosenmessage attacks. For parameters of interest, the proposed scheme enables about 33 faster verification with a comparable signature size than a construction of Merkle and Winternitz. The public key size remains unchanged (1 hash value). The main cost for the faster verification is an increase in the time required for signing messages and for key generation. The chapter is based on the paper A onetime signature using runlength encoding (Information Processing Letters Vol. 108, Issue 4, (2008)). Author: Villanyi, Viktoria I. Effects of Technology Integration in K12 Settings $111.53 This review of literature assessed the use and effect of technology in the K12 public school setting. Several types of technologies are available to enhance student learning in the classroom. Everything from audio and video content to handheld technologies and notebook computing has been used in classrooms, and new WEB 2.0based technology such as Wikis and Blogs are emerging. While it is impossible for any one researcher to present information for all technologies in use in public classrooms across the United States, the goal of this review is to show what is available, who is in control of the technology and how it can be used in the classroom to enhance the learning process. A primary issue of concern for administrators and policy makers in determining whether or not to implement technology is the lack of statistically significant data indicating the effectiveness of current technologies. While not measured by quantitative analyses of standardized tests, findings suggest that the positive influences of technology integration are revealed through more qualitative research. Gender and Influence Strategies in Work Settings $154.53 Present work investigates the gender differences in the selection of influence strategies by the managers. Previous findings indicate that male and female managers use different types of influence strategies. However, two sets of explanations have been offered to explain these differences, namely, socialrole model and structural model. Since the findings in this area were not conclusive and there were several unanswered questions, the present study was undertaken by the authors. In order to answer specific research questions in this area, three sets of studies were conducted. In the first study results were mixed and it indicated that there could be a possibility of socialrole model playing a role. However, in the later studies there was no significant effect of gender on any of the dependent variables. Therefore, it was concluded that due to changes in the work place and societal norms over a period of time, stereotypical gender role expectations are getting diminished day by day. This work will be of interest to scholars from psychology, sociology, management or anyone interested in the field of organizational behavior.
