In the past couple of years, the iPod, and the iPhone have become two of the most popular devices. These tech gadgets have changed the way people communicate and the way they live their lives due to all the applications that they possess. They have the ability to do pretty much everything you can think of. In the past few months, car manufacturers everywhere have created applications to help drivers read their speeds, acceleration, give them directions, look at new car models and even tell drivers where to watch out for cops. BMW has created the newest driving application, called the BMW M Power Meter.

The BMW M Power Meter, measures speed, forward acceleration, lateral acceleration, travel time/distance, and acceleration up to a given speed, 0 to 62 mph. This application can be used in the New Jersey BMW X6, NJ BMW 1 series, or all other BMW models. This application also works in any vehicle by other automakers. Other applications like this one will cost you anywhere from $4.99 to $10 but the BMW M power app is free!
The application uses your iPhone's or iPod touch's built-in accelerometer to measure these things. This application is very simple to use. All you need to do is go to the application store on your device or on your computer, type in BMW M power app. in the search field and download. Accept the terms and conditions, and then you are all ready to go. Once you are in your car you must place your device flat in the direction you are traveling or sitting up-right at 90 degrees in order to get a measurement.

The app defaults to timing a jaunt from 0 to 50 km/h, but you can customize the settings choosing from many acceleration options up to 200 km/h or distances ranging from 100 meters to 2,000 meters. You can also unlock different skin's on the BMW website to customize the look and feel of the application. The BMW M power app also allows you to measure forward and lateral G-forces for users who want to take a spin on a skidpad.
To receive an accurate measurement, your car must be at a complete stop when you start recording, and then will take a second to measure after you press start. Once it starts, it will begin stop recording once you reach the selected speed or distance. You also have the choice of setting in continuous motion to see your performance in real time.
In the past couple of years BMW has been trying to integrate iPods and iPhones into their vehicles to keep up with customer needs. BMW was the first car manufacture to integrate the Apple iPod into their vehicles so drivers could take their music on the road with them. They have also created other applications, such as various BMW TV podcasts so consumers can see all the latest models and learn about all the new things BMW is coming out with, BMW racing games, various BMW dealerships around the world have their own application so consumers can see what models they carry, and an application that tells what is wrong with your car when your check engine light comes on.
